DesignMD Privacy Policy

DesignMD is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox that turns the design of a web page into a design.md file. This policy explains what the extension does with data.

Summary

DesignMD does not collect, store, sell, or share any personal data. Everything happens locally in your browser.

What DesignMD reads

When you click the DesignMD toolbar button, the extension reads the computed styles of the page in the active tab: colors, fonts, sizes, spacing, corner radius, shadows, and the styles of elements such as buttons and inputs. It also reads the page's title and address to label the file.

DesignMD only reads the tab you click it on, and only at the moment you click it. It does not run on other tabs or in the background.

What happens to that data

  • The styles are processed in memory inside your browser to build the design.md file.
  • The file is saved to your computer only when you click Download design.md, or placed on your clipboard only when you click Copy.
  • Nothing is sent to us or to any third party. The extension makes no network requests.

Data stored on your device

DesignMD stores one preference in your browser's local storage: whether you chose the light or dark theme. It never leaves your device, and you can clear it by removing the extension.

Permissions

  • activeTab: access to the current tab, granted only when you click the toolbar button
  • scripting: to run the extension's own style-reading script in that tab
  • downloads: to save design.md when you ask it to

Children

DesignMD is a developer tool and is not directed at children.

Changes

If a future version adds features that send data to a server, such as accounts or saved scan history, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be noted in the store listing.
